The world is a victim of an attack from an ancient evil from the stars, the waited patiently for the time to rise, destroy and take everything the planet has down to the very core. They have influenced us, manipulated us, and even live amongst the population hiding in plain sight waiting for a weak point in our modern world to strike. But a glimmer of hope is still present for three being have betrayed the ways of the ancient race and run for their lives to seek help to stop the leaders of the race, and to by chance three teenagers from different lives and background are now caught in the middle of war for their blue world. 
Can they stop the madness? 
Can they stop the destruction? 
Can they beat the clock for the sake of their world?
Or will crumble and fall to their knees at the mercy of the cold ancient metal terror?All Rights Reserved

First started in 2015, this story is at 50k+ words, but was removed when a plotting hiccup was encountered. I now intend to split it into three parts, and this is the complete Part 1. This story isn't about how a hero will rise and bring the world back to what it was Pre-Fall. This story is about me, an ordinary Remanat living life through the world day to day as a mercenary. A beginner mercenary as everyone likes to remind me. The others in my group have been calling me 'Rookie' since I joined them three months ago. I'm beginning to wonder if they actually know my name. We have been hired to help the New Reach Caravan travel across the wastelands to Philly Del Phia, and this is the perfect opportunity to show them that I'm not just a dumb Rookie. I'm actually quite good at my job. I just happen to get distracted by one certain Eight-Ball, but it's not my fault he's good-looking, and charming, and funny... Anyway, all I have to do is help my group get the caravan to Del Phia. Should be an easy enough job. Just avoid the zoms and keep clear of the Raiders, and we should be fine... Right? The government thinks they do though, they think that we're all menaced to society and that we need to be found, captured, and controlled. They even went as far as forming the Justification to replace our current government. They basically did everything in their power to catch us. Although it didn't work very well. There are still thousands of us out there hiding in plain site. So that's how our country decided to turn against its own, the Variables. That's what they call us. But that's just the main story of us Variables, this one is about me, well. Me and my literal other personality.

100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. The Stelka, an alien race with one soul purpose, invades Earth and places the planet under an occupation. The planet will only be freed from their rule once Humanity passes or fails their tests. If they pass with flying colors, they will be set free and introduced to the vast universe outside the Milky Way. If they fail, the Stelka choose the fate for all of Humanity. Governing under Stelka rule, slavery, or complete annihilation. Only the results of the tests will tell the fate of Humanity.
