As I got out of bed, I started to wonder what was the point of me, a Black African, supposed to do or even learn at school. I was highly disliked, and was never allowed to do anything fun, like the other White British teens. In fact , I was supposed to keep a distance of three meters away from them. It was a rule they found very important. Mum says, I'm lucky to have an education, or even live in a house. But I wouldn't call my home a house; I'd call it a room...

Back in the 1900's, people like Jamaal were disrespected. Unwanted. Unwelcome. These diary entries record the life of a sixteen year old black African boy named Jamaal, who wants him and his family to belong, like everyone else. And to change history. Struggling through life, bullies, racism and unkindness, Jamaal finds himself running a race. A race to belong.
