Ashborn Bates has come to live in a small town where his Aunt Lucy grew up. The first day they get there, he is forced to go to a dinner with Lucy's friend, Hazel, and her 'daughter', Evelyn Ellis. 1 week later though, a body of a girl was found and everyone knew it had to be the new kid. Especially when that girl was the one that was known for bullying him. Evelyn Ellis is a girl that has been through a lot and still walks through life smiling. She was moved to the small town years ago when she was around 7 years old. Of course she's not the popular kid but she really doesn't mind as long as she has her faith and her friends. Once she hears about Ash and how he now lives with his Aunt because his parents are dead, she starts to feel like there might be someone she can finally relate to! Until, everyone suspects him of murder. She has learned to like Ash in the week she's known him but... He didn't seem like a killer! She doesn't want to believe it, and to prove her point she gets him and they go investigate on there own. As they investigate further and further into what really happened, they learn so much more about each others past. And they can't help but feel bonded. Will they find the real killer? Is HE the killer? What has happened in their past to make them feel connected?

This story is not getting the attention it deserves, so I am attempting to "re-brand" it. Maybe no one "gets" it. If you want to read about "Normal" teenagers, maybe this isn't for you, it's more complicated than that. It's about a teenager who doesn't fit it, but doesn't want to, who has the best two friends that anyone could have. Who watched his father lose his job in the Recession and then loses his home, and how he copes, especially when he learns that their new house is haunted and the ghost is in his room. Michael was an average kid, although he's always stood out. He was a school jock but also a skater whose long blond hair almost reaches his waist. When his parents lived in a house in a home owners association like all his other friends, life seemed normal. Then his father lost his job and suddenly those "friends" weren't there anymore--except for his two best friends, Short Round and Dewey. The three are skaters, good ones, who live for girls and their skateboards. They're also basically good kids who take pride in being different without paying attention to it. When Michael loses his home and his family has to move they have his back. And they are there for him when the ghost girl starts following him around. Mariah was murdered when she was just 15, her remains were never found, although no one but her and her ghost friend, Crazy Girl, know where their bodies are buried. The house Michael now lives in is the one where she lived with her family, and her old room is now his. She appears to him one night, trying to taunt him, but against her will she is falling in love with the boy who lives in her old room. Slowly the two begin to fall in love and Mariah tells him her story, and of the hidden danger that lies up the street from him. A dangerous strangers loves to kill little girls, and his sister Kit
