Victorian London 1860, Miss Lillian is living the typical life of an unmarried Victorian woman. She however isn't keen on balls or meeting men she wants to work in business but he father has forbidden her. When close family friends the Pembroke's invite Lillian to spend Christmas with them. Lillian meets the arrogant and selfish Edward Pembroke' the youngest son of the Pembroke's. In a twist of events Lillian and Edward are visited by three spirits that Christmas Eve.

The Unfinished Melody- On New Year's Eve, Ada receives a message for the first time but in the form of a song playing in her ear. With Kitty's help, she is determined to finish the melody and pass it on to its intended recipient. 2. The Punchline- At an army regiment dinner in honour of the soldiers in South Africa, Ada receives a message from a war veteran in the form of a joke. With only a name to go on, she and Kitty must find out where and who the joke must be delivered to. 3. The Letter- During a trip to the theatre, Ada is contacted by a recently departed stage actress who wishes to deliver a secret letter and locket to her long-lost daughter. 4. Sorrow of a Schoolboy- Heading north for Robbie's end of summer term prize-giving, Kitty witnesses Ada receive a heart-breaking plea from a schoolboy who died in tragic circumstances. 5. Let the Heart Love Again- Ada receives a message from a woman who wishes her grieving husband to move on. With Ada away, Kitty, curious of the man, decides to meet up with him but isn't quite prepared for the consequences. 6. Loss of Communication- As Christmas approaches, Ada and Kitty are drifting apart. Ada has re-discovered her spiritualist passion but is caught in a dangerous obsession, even ignoring the real voices in her head needing her help. 7. To Catch a Killer- Feeling she is being ignored, Kitty takes information from Ada's notebook and sets about helping a desperate spirit by placing herself in very real danger. 8. Robert- Ada is still intent on reaching her husband but crossed-wires and strange interference thwart her plans. What is the future for Ada and Kitty?
