No one was supposed to know what existed outside the fence. All that was known was that the war was terrible, and nothing was left. But, there was a thriving society called Panem just beyond the fence, led by President Snow, Jeanine Matthews' brother. Jeanine and Snow have had a rivalry for many years, so their father designated one area to each sibling. When there are rumors that Divergents will overthrow both governments, Snow and Jeanine will create the Faction Games, in which two male divergents and two female divergents are pooled from each faction to fight to the death. We all know the story of the Mockingjay Rebellion. Sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen volunteers for her twelve year old sister for this event called The Hunger Games where twenty four children fight to the death and only one comes out as victor. A boy named Peeta Mellark was reaped alongside her. These two come out of the games as "Starcrossed Lovers". This caused a few uprisings in some districts. President Snow doesn't want another rebellion so he sends Katniss and Peeta back into the games with other Victors from each district. This causes a whole other war and this time, the districts pull out on top. The Hunger Games are ended and Snow is executed and everyone is safe again. Yeah, let's fast foward about fifty years.
