"Their fear was the power we lived for. Every launch of the knife, every deafening puncture into the board sent spectators into a state of aversion and entrancement. Every night, they were left to wonder what sort of madness drove a man to launch knives with utter confidence and what sort of lunatic woman stood and smiled, letting it happen."

Trust is a deadly game. Impalement artists Angelo and Julia are no strangers to danger as they strive to make a name for themselves throughout sleazy speakeasies in the late 1920s San Francisco. In this foggy city of free-spirited flappers, illicit liquor, tobacco, jazz, and sparkling champagne and lights, Julia aims to be the New Woman of the 1920s: independent, expressive, materialistic, and unafraid to speak her mind. After being contracted to perform at one of the city's most lavish hotels, Angelo and Julia will be forced to fulfill their spectators' thirst for deadlier acts. Julia believes becoming a target girl will liberate her, but soon she will question how much power she truly holds. No matter what, the show must go on.
