When Charlotte first came to the manor to marry she got lost in the forest surrounding the house and miraculously returned a week later, clean and unharmed as if she had only gone for an evening stroll.

Now some fifty years later, her granddaughter has vanished and Charlotte realizes that the thing in the forest that stole her now has new prey ensnared in its thorns and she must confront the devil of her past if she wants to save her granddaughter from the Shrike's larder before he consumes her soul completely.
