He'd always been set apart by his differences.
Being born different, treated differently, and he couldn't even tell his Clanmates that he was perfectly normal. Understanding others was difficult, talking was arduous and hearing was an impossibility.
His clanmates either want him to be kicked out of the clan for good riddance - after all, deafness alone was a liability, and paired with snow-white fur and clumsy paws, what use did such a cat have?
However, StarClan isn't always right. StarClan isn't always there. Sometimes, other things are. Lightwhisper may just be the answer to it.

Rising from the Ashes
The four Clans-GrassClan, OakClan, PineClan and WillowClan-have lived in relative balance since the Clans began. They kept separate, save for their Gathering every full moon. While they had their disagreements, they kept a relatively harmonious existence. They had always been four Clans and it was believed that they always would be. For as long as they kept the warrior code alive, the Clans would continue to thrive. That's when the troubles began. One long, hot, dry greenleaf, a fire swept through GrassClan. Some cats were lost but those that survived resumed life in their now scorched territory. They knew that life was going to be harder than ever, but they could not abandon the only home they had ever known. The next couple of seasons, GrassClan struggled to feed themselves with little prey to be found. Yet, they refused to give up. Newleaf found GrassClan weak and starving but with hope on their horizon. Their oldest queen had moved into the nursery. Then, disaster struck a second time. Greencough swept through the Clan, snuffing out the new lives before they had even begun. The dreaded sickness left its mark, stealing the future of the Clan and all hope with it. Life had taken its toll on GrassClan. All that remained were their young leader, their deputy, their elderly medicine cat, one warrior and three elders. They had no apprentices, no she-cats and no kits. The once vibrant Clan was on the brink of dying out. The four Clans would soon be no more. Then, at the next Gathering, StarClan brought a message to the Clans: GrassClan must survive. There had always been four Clans and that could not change. They proposed that volunteers from the other three Clans should join GrassClan to help restore it. Cats were given one moon to consider the offer. Stars entwine in the darker night as the sky cries stars of pity for those below. Stirring winds and roaring echoes- it calls forward to those those who follow the light of sun and intimidates those who hesitate to act right. "It's all burning," murmured the light grey she-cat with desperation "it's all burning!" she continued on repeating. "It is burning, Cloudfall." Meowed a white tom beside her, his tail resting on her back. "May StarClan light the paths of those cats, may they be safe in their paws." He whispered with awe and sympathy. The characters, clans and place are all my idea but the customs and ideas are not mine (except the plot, that's mine as well but still. UGH! BASICALLY WARRIORS WAS NOT MY IDEA. THERE. MUCH LESS HEADACHE-INDUCING). Warriors is by Erin Hunter (who is more than one person if I remember correctly). Bramblenight is just a normal warrior. And he wishes to keep it that way. But when his Clan - and more importantly, his leader - are threatened by StreamClan and ForestClan, he has to help his Clan to keep them out of their territory. Though StarClan has plans for him, too, and when he starts getting dreams about five unknown kits, he starts to wonder if maybe he's part of something bigger than he wants to be.
