Tainted (Rewriting)

There are a select few people in the world who possess extraordinary abilities. Some are able to control elements, such as fire and water, while others have more unorthodox abilities like shapeshifting or manipulating illusions. Rumors also tell of the possibility of wielders possessing the ability to manipulate light and darkness; though it has never been proven. People with these abilities are branded as The Tainted.

Scientists have researched this phenomenon and have found no correlation in the genetics between The Tainted and their parents. All they have concluded is that it is a result of a mutation in the subject's DNA. The mutation itself does not make itself present in the child's teenage years.

Society has no idea what to do with these people. Some want to use their powers for good and put them in the army while others want them imprisoned or with a bullet through their head. Little does the public know that their is an organization who wants to use these individuals for evil purposes: enslavement, domination, dictatorship, etc. Members have been successful at keeping their identity a secret and could be anyone, anywhere, anytime.
