"I'm not ever going to be good enough for you, am I?" I asked him.
Jack's eyes lowered to the ground, "That's not what I meant." He mumbled.
I gripped my sword tighter in my hand, "Then what did you mean."
He looked up, his hair falling into his eyes. "I mean to tell you the opposite. I'm not good enough for you, Eria. I never will be."

Author's Note Dear Readers, As I pen this note, I am filled with a profound sense of accomplishment and gratitude, for this marks the sixth time I have triumphed in the exhilarating challenge of NaNoWriMo! Each year has brought its own unique set of trials and triumphs, but the thrill of crafting new worlds and weaving intricate tales remains as invigorating as ever. From the moment I embarked on this literary adventure, I found myself captivated by the idea of storytelling. NaNoWriMo has been more than just a writing challenge for me; it has been a journey of self-discovery, discipline, and boundless creativity. The late nights spent typing furiously, the countless cups of coffee, and the moments of doubt have all culminated in the joy of seeing my visions take form on the page. Over the years, I've learned to embrace the unexpected twists and turns of the narrative process. Each character I've created and every plot I've unraveled have contributed to my growth as a writer. The Empire of the Krow is a testament to that growth-a world born from inspiration, hard work, and a relentless passion for storytelling. I owe a heartfelt thank you to my fellow writers, both past and present, who have inspired and challenged me along the way. The camaraderie of the NaNoWriMo community is unparalleled; it's a space where creativity thrives, and support flourishes. Together, we celebrate each other's victories, cheer through the struggles, and revel in the magic of words. As I dive deeper into the realms I've created, I invite you, dear readers, to join me on this journey. May the pages ahead transport you to the Empire of the Krow, where adventure, intrigue, and wonder await. Thank you for your unwavering support and for being a part of this incredible literary adventure. Here's to the stories yet to come! With gratitude and excitement, M. Copeland

****Copyrighted**** 'Tell me you don't feel it.' He whispered against my lips, and the trembling that had ceased at the feel of his lips against mine began again with renewed vigor. 'Tell me it's not what you want, and I'll go. You'll never have to see me again.' Swallowing, I looked up at the eyes that had entranced me from the start. I took in his every feature, slowly and deliberately. I thrilled at the feeling of his arms enfolding me, and I inhaled his familiar scent with a trembling breath. And then, then I did the most foolish thing imaginable: I flung my arms about his neck and kissed him with all that I had, almost losing myself in the safety and security I felt. But more than that, I ran. I took his moment of shock, the slight loosing of his arms about me, and tore myself away from him, shoving out the door and into the rain. I suppose I'll never know why he didn't follow me. It was the thing I feared most. I knew that if he came for me a second time, I wouldn't be able to say 'no'. I wouldn't be able to run. But I had to. I had to go. I couldn't let him be hurt because of me. He would live on now, and I would marry another. I had leased my last bit of passion in that one moment in his arms, and as I made my way through the dark streets, I felt myself become dull and lost like the creatures bound in the menagerie. **Much of this was written when I was younger and then I came back later and finished it. There will likely be mistakes. Lots of them.

Areston thinks he can shield me from his past, but what he doesn't realize is I'm already part of it. The darkness that haunts him? It's the same one that's been chasing me for years. I've given him everything-my body, my heart, my soul-and still, it's not enough. He craves control, and needs to protect me, but I'm done playing the delicate wife. I'm done being kept in the dark while he fights battles that belong to both of us. He's mine, and I'll burn the world down to keep him just like he would do for me. But our secrets are dangerous. Our demons are circling, and if we're not careful, they'll tear us apart from the inside. We've been through hell together, but this is different. This time, it's not about surviving-it's about whether we can trust each other enough to fight for what we have. He's the love of my life, the man I'm addicted to, but in the end, will our love be enough to save us from ourselves? This explosive finale to The Scent Trilogy-where passion, obsession, and unrelenting loyalty collide, and no one walks away unscathed.
