Awaiting more than what we knew
By james a. galgano
The dim light of hope fades beyond distant horizon
The contours of gloom gather strength ill defined.
Desolation greets each waking hour without assurance.
Often one remains at oceans end for the incoming tide.
Sweeping away the remnants of what one longed to see
Entering life's lonely harbor adjacent to one's misery.
How many lifetimes has one impatiently awaited guiding light.
Only to be mistaken by what one hoped would before midnight.
Above waning moon showers one's expectations with sadness
Where once before the echoes of laughter could be heard
Now only the silence of storm approaching bringing more than rain.
It is so hard to explain this feeling of emptiness overwhelming.
Prayers falling on deaf ears to any god so to speak we never hear.
Yet quietly remain hopeful for the distant promise once held dear.
