Kieran Athantis actually had his life mostly on track. Sure, he'd been to six schools in six year, he lived in the middle of Missouri, he had to deal with ADHD making school even harder, and his best friend was moving to Boston. But honestly, that was about par for the course. What was really messing him up was the nightmares. Nightmares of storms and chasms and a torrential ocean and recently a bronze sword in the middle of it all that radiated a safety Kieran couldn't explain. He wasn't getting any sleep, so much so it was affecting his health, his grades were even WORSE, and no doctors could explain it or help which was kind of freaking him out. He wouldn't admit that to his Mama though, she was worrying for him enough. Finally, they decided to take a little day trip to St. Louis. Relax, get a change of scenery, sort of reset everything, you know? It was honestly the closest to normal he'd felt in weeks.
So of course Kieran got dragged out of the exploding Gateway Arch right into the Mississippi River.
