جريدة الأهرام هي واحدة من أقدم وأبرز الصحف في مصر ، ولها تاريخ طويل وغني. تأسس في 27 ديسمبر 1875 من قبل الأخوين اللبنانيين بشارة وسليم تقلا ، اللذين كانا يعيشان في الإسكندرية في ذلك الوقت. صدر العدد الأول من الصحيفة في 5 أغسطس 1876 . منذ نشأتها ، لعبت الأهرام دورًا مهمًا في تشكيل السياسة والمجتمع المصري ، وأصبحت واحدة من أكثر الصحف موثوقية وتأثيرًا في البلاد 
لعبت الأهرام دورًا حاسمًا في حركة استقلال مصر ، حيث دعت مقالاتها وافتتاحياتها إلى استقلال مصر وانتقدت الحكم الاستعماري البريطاني. كما شكلت الصحيفة منبرًا للعديد من المفكرين والقادة السياسيين المصريين البارزين ، ومنهم مصطفى كامل باشا مؤسس الحزب الوطني وجريدة اللواء. إلا أن السلطات البريطانية اعتبرت الصحيفة تهديدًا لسيطرتها على مصر ، وعلقت نشر صحيفة اللواء المصري التابعة للحزب الوطني .
