A 16-year-old girl is trying to survive sophomore year of high school, being friends with her new exchange student crush, and having two twin sisters. Things are complicated when her parents leave the house for a while. Not to mention she's forced to get over her fear of water.

As young YouTuber Cora Harlow hides behind her online persona, Scales, she struggles with her anxiety and Thalassophobia. Her parents have signed her up for swim lessons by doctors' suggestions, and her long-time best friend (her previous crush) takes them with her too. Her life gets even more stressful when her parents go on a two month long work trip, and she's stuck taking care of her twin sisters. And the cute new British exchange student fights his way into her inner life.

Sometimes she just wants to forget about her reality, and permanently become Scales. Just so she can focus on doing what she loves. Making music.

But she realizes she's going to have to shed some of her scales after she has another accident.
