Romeo and Juliet is a renowned tragedy written by William Shakespeare, believed to have been composed between 1591 and 1595. The play tells the story of two young lovers from feuding families in Verona, Italy, whose untimely deaths ultimately reconcile their families. It is one of Shakespeare's most famous works and has been widely studied, performed, and adapted throughout history.

The plot of Romeo and Juliet revolves around the passionate love affair between Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Despite being members of rival households, they meet at a masquerade ball and instantly fall in love. Determined to be together, they secretly marry with the help of Friar Laurence. However, their happiness is short-lived as a series of unfortunate events unfolds.

The central conflict in the play arises from the ongoing feud between the Montagues and the Capulets. This enmity leads to numerous clashes and escalates the tension throughout the story. Romeo's friend Mercutio and Juliet's cousin Tybalt are both casualties of this feud, further fueling the tragedy.
