They were destined to hate each other.

Oh joy, how very romantic.

But, surprise, surprise, they were also destined to be together. Because, of course, fate has nothing better to do than to throw them together like a bad sitcom pairing.

He hated everything she stood for.

Shocking. I mean, who wouldn't hate immortal vampires that look like they just stepped out of a glossy magazine ad?

And yet... Oh, how he loved her. Because apparently, "I hate you" is just code for "I'm so in love with you," right?

Beatrix, on the other hand, had never hated what she was.

In fact, she embraced it. Why wouldn't she? She had nothing better to do-except, you know, rule the night and look fabulous while doing it.

She was calm. She was collected. She was soft-spoken. Basically the human equivalent of a glass of warm milk.

Samuel, however, saw vampires as smelly, bloodsucking monsters. They were the reason he was stuck in this "shapeshifter" thing. Not great, but hey, at least he didn't have to deal with all the whining about immortality.

He was calm. He was collected. He was hard-spoken, because apparently, his default setting was "angry dad."

But when it came to her... oh, the man was like a raccoon on caffeine-completely manic.
