Tom is a loner. that is not to say Tom is alone or that he doesn't have any friends, Tom had many friends, like Mike from office no.2, or his balding landlord. Or its not to say Tom feels lonely, certainly not. It's that Tom is a loner, because he prefers being by himself and not around others too much.
