"I traveled here on a sailing ship with my best friend. My mother paid for our whole trip and this carriage. I am only a couple of steps away from the door of my great-great-great-grandparents' house, even though it's owned by other people now. I'll be safer here, with the civil war going on in my townhouse." It is the late 1800s. A young lady with her best friend travels to her ancestors' house which is owned by other people. She discovers that the owners of the property own a slave girl and that she might be related to her, and tries to help her when she sees how harshly she is treated.

1858, Petersburg, Virginia. Gregory Thompson lived a life any normal soul would be blessed to have. He had a stable job, food on the table, clothes on his back, and a lovely wife with three children to come home to. He had everything he ever wanted, that is until the ships came. Five ships docked at the shores of Virginia, carrying in another load of those unfortunate souls who managed to get captured and shipped across the sea. All of them were sold to their new masters, all except one. Reports came in saying one escaped and fled the Maryland. Why does that one person matter? He was a criminal in his home village and has come seeking refuge in the hands of one he least expected: Thompson and his family, but all ends turn when he discovers a dark secret the Thompson's eldest son possesses. Will Thompson help clear his name or throw him back into the hands of the those who want his neck?
