In the aftermath of Mortis, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Rex crash land on a mysterious planet. What they discover is far beyond their wildest dreams: a planet-sized machine, capable of resetting reality itself, and which has already been used to rewrite history. There, they find themselves beginning to question everything they once thought they knew.

After a failed coup against the Emperor in the wake of his discovery of his long-lost son, Darth Vader flees from the Empire, crashing on a small, mostly uninhabited planet where he's found and captured by the Rebel Alliance. Instead of killing Vader, the Rebels opt to imprison him to obtain valuable information. Predictably, nothing goes as planned.

Right after Shmi sends Anakin to the Jedi, she's suddenly transported over thirty years into the future, onto the bridge of the Executor when Vader is searching for Luke. Vader isn't terribly keen on his mother knowing who he's become, but Shmi figures out fast he's a slave, and she's going to do whatever she can to help him, whether he's her long-lost son or not.

Killed on Mustafar by Sidious while attempting to rescue Vader, Ahsoka is reborn as Luke's adopted younger sister. She struggles with constantly remembering flashes of her life as Ahsoka as she remembers more about Anakin. More than anything, she wants to find out more about her past, wants to find Anakin again in person but he's dead. Right?

As Darth Vader becomes tired of his current life, he uses an ancient Sith relic in an attempt to create another reality where everything is perfect. When Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano are sent to investigate Vader's disappearance, their worlds and beliefs are upended, but dealing with a depressed and suicidal Sith Lord is far from easy. After leaving Vader a second time, Obi-Wan is given, and takes, the chance to travel to the past to fix his mistakes. He hopes it will be easy. It's not. As the galaxy around him spirals out of control a second time, Obi-Wan captures a newly Fallen Darth Vader and runs away with him. Even if he can't save Anakin, at least he can stop Vader from terrorizing the galaxy again.

Luke grows up plagued with constant nightmares about what happened on Mustafar. He wants answers about what really happened to his father, answers no one is giving him. He's certain Ben Kenobi is hiding something, both about his own real identity and Luke's father. And his suspicions are confirmed when on the Death Star, he senses who Vader truly is.

The unborn Luke struggles to get his attention, and unintentionally shows the Jedi Master flashes of the impending dark future, one which Obi-Wan promises to avert. If only he knew how.

Ahsoka comes back to the Order before the end of the war for reasons Anakin doesn't know. As the world crashes down around him, as the Jedi Order and Republic fall, the Empire rising from their ashes, as he sees the security recording of Ahsoka kneeling to Sidious, her new master, Anakin knows nothing will ever be the same again.

Half-Force beings can't die, not even from mortal injuries. Instead, they just develop an unexplainable connection to the person who killed them, that lets the other control them. Anakin didn't mean to find that out by accident when he fights Windu during Operation Knightfall. He always felt like the Jedi's slave. He just didn't expect it to become literal. And then he's sent on a mission with Obi-Wan, for the first time since the Jedi fell.
