This poem narrates the mythical tale of Nyi Roro Kidul, the Queen of the Southern Sea in Javanese folklore. It intertwines themes of love, betrayal, and transformation as it recounts the journey of Dewi Kadita, a mortal princess, who becomes the legendary sea goddess. The poem explores the depth of her love, the heartbreak of betrayal, and her ultimate rebirth as a powerful siren ruling the ocean's depths. It is a lyrical and enchanting depiction of her metamorphosis and eternal reign over the sea.

Nyi Roro Kidul (or Nyai Roro Kidul, Sundanese: ᮑᮤ ᮛᮛ ᮊᮤᮓᮥᮜ᮪, Latin: Nyi Rara Kidul, Javanese: ꦚꦻꦫꦫꦏꦶꦢꦸꦭ꧀, (Nyai Rara Kidul), Balinese: ᬜᬶᬭᭀᬭᭀᬓᬶᬤᬸᬮ᭄) is a supernatural figure of Indonesian folklore from Sundanese and Javanese myths who is believed to rule the South Sea. In Javanese mythology, Kanjeng Ratu Kidul is a creation of the Kaping Telu Gods who populate the living world as the goddess of rice and other goddesses of nature. Meanwhile, Nyi Roro Kidul was originally the daughter of the Sunda Kingdom who her father expelled because of her mother's actions.
