Bittersweet Symphony

He approached me with an air of superiority, clearly unimpressed by my presence. "I hope you understand, Calista, that this marriage is purely a business arrangement," he said coldly. "Do not expect me to treat you with any sort of affection or kindness."

I almost laughed, because I didn't care. I just needed him to give me a reason to disappear. So what if I'm bound to him by some promise my parents made? I can easily turn that back on them. I straightened my spine and met his gaze with determination. "I see," I replied, my voice steady. "But you best believe that I will break you. SInce you want to keep me here against my will, I'll make you regret agreeing to marry me."

His eyebrows rose, clearly surprised by my response. "Very well. But do not expect any mercy from me."

'Well...shall I dare say it's a pleasure to finally meet you?"

"...The feeling isn't mutual."

Calista York has always been an independent woman. After moving away from her parents as soon as she came of age, nothing has come easy for her. Even after attending college, and landing a good and stable job, she still doesn't know what life has in store for her. If there's even anything else.
