When you think of Regulus Black, what is the first thing your mind thinks of?
Quiet?
A perfect student?
A perfect heir?
The spare?
A follower of the Dark Lord?
What if he was all of those things, but also not? You see, Regulus was everything he had to be in order to complete his goal. He was going to do the one thing that no one believed he was capable of, he was going to kill Voldemort. And in a sense he did. He found out that the Dark Lord's secret. Voldemort had made a Horcrux. An item so vile and crude that the darkest wizards shudder at the thought of it. An item that involved the splitting of the soul in order to achieve the one thing thought impossible, immortality.
And Regulus did. He had destroyed the Horcrux that the Dark Lord had used his house elf to hide, but not without getting seriously injured in the process. He thought he was going to die. Die without doing the one other thing he had regretted never doing. He never got to say goodbye to Sirius.
However, just when he thought that he was going to finally pass into the next world, he was saved.
Saved by a person who introduced him to a new world. A world that allowed him to continue to work from the shadows while continuing to save the world in the process. Along the way he made choices, some he regretted, some he didn't, because in the end he got the family he had always dreamed of.
