Year 1400 BC. One day at the marketplace changes everything for Nefer-ra, the young and beautiful daughter of a craftsman. Before she even realizes what has happened, she has already signed the contract to become the first wife of the Pharaoh's son and moved to live in the royal harem. At first everything seems almost too good to be true, but Nefer-ra soon realizes there is more to the order of things at the palace than at first catches the eye and she has to face the fact that her fairytale may not be that happy after all. Year 1391 BC. Unlike the other wives in Pharaoh Atekhramun's harem, Ra-nef-ankh doesn't want love or adoration from the Pharaoh. She wants revenge. In order to get her plan to work, she needs to get close enough to the Pharaoh but how can she do that when his grief makes him push people away. And how do you get time alone with the Pharaoh in a harem where everyone is fighting for his attention? Our entry for the Open Novella Contest 2022, based on prompt 53: All the girls in the Pharaoh's harem shared a common goal: earn his attention, bear his offspring, and rise above the rest. Not her. She was there for revenge.
