In 1480 Marie Bellecourt, a possibly mad 15 year old French noblewomen, is sent to England to marry a man she has never met before. But before she can reach him, she and her escorts are attacked by monsters. Saved by a strange and somewhat sullen boy, Marie is determined to stay by his side, whether he likes it or not, as she sees her chance to live a life of adventure and excitement and finally get answers about all the impossible, magical things she sees.

Henry has no interest in heroics. His family were heroes who hunted monsters to protect the ordinary, non-magical people of England and all that got them was killed. Alone and disillusioned, Henry is suddenly presented with an opportunity to live a life of comfort and wealth. All he has to do is rescue a young Elisabeth of York from Morgan Le Fay, one of the most powerful witches in history. Doable...probably. His quest isn't made any easier by Marie, an irritating, spoilt girl, who insists on following on his journey. But the more time they spend together, the more he finds himself enjoying the company and wondering if being a hero would really be so bad.

(I wrote Marie as having ADHD but considering the time in which this story is set she can't have an official diagnosis.)
