Avery Cooper, a normal teenage girl on the surface. However, one must look beneath the surface, for turbulent waters flow here.
Dexter Maverick, an abnormal teenage boy, but then they are all abnormal at this age.
When Dexter moves into the house beside hers, Avery feels the need to make sure that she takes care of him, a deep-rooted emotion stemming from an acute lack of attention, or at least, that's what she tells herself.
Despite all things that have happened to them, they both hold on to music, a rock they can adhere their souls to. Avery is, however, secretive about her talents, because she has never realized their true potential.
Dexter loves secrets and he loves others' secrets. He likes saving people. Avery doesn't want to be saved, or, to be more specific, she doesn't want to be fixed by someone else. She wants to fight her own battles. Dexter is convinced that she needs him. Maybe she does, and she doesn't know herself.
As time passes, Avery and Dexter unravel each others' secrets and discover that sometimes, like attracts like.
