"You're not how I remember you." Theodore mumbled, loud enough for it to hang in the cigarette-smoke-infused air between us, but quiet enough for just the two of us to hear. It was heavier than the smoke, maybe heavier than the fallen expression on his face, but I didn't want to test that.

"I've just..." I shifted, crossing one leg over the other, fingers twisting the silver ring on my middle finger.

His gaze lingered on me for a beat too long before he looked away, tapping ash neatly into a tray.

"You really have changed," he murmured, almost to himself.

I raised a brow, my fidgeting stuttering just slightly. "Is that supposed to be a compliment?"

His shoulders rose and fell in a faint shrug, plastering a face of nonchalance. "Not sure yet."
