Before Maximum Ride.
Before The Flock.
There were several experimental generations, some successful, and some not. These previous generations grew up only knowing their short-lived lives in the labs they were created in. All the pain, screams, and nightmares were a part of their everyday lives. None of them seeing the outside world, until one successful generation...
This generation was never meant to survive, and most of them didn't, except for one. The Angel of Mercy. When she refused to be exterminated, it forced her creators to find a use for her. Fitting her to be a governmental assassin. Two others of the next generation later joined her. The Angel of Death and The Devil's Advocate.
This trio made up The Fates.
A trio of assassins that were feared amongst the criminal underground.
But not everything was about death and killing for this trio of nine-year-olds. They were also sent out on retrieval missions, returning experiments and strange anomalies that the lab had interests in.
Their most recent mission...
Recover the anomaly from New York City.
***I'm doing this as part of my Nanowrimo challenge. If I stick to my usual story lengths this can get upwards of 50 chapters or so.***

She chose to work for Stark, knowing that she was the best one for the role. She knew that her life would be different, working with the worlds most notoriously egocentric man, hell superhero, but she didn't care. She knew he needed help, staying on the right path and that's exactly what she did for him. What she didn't expect, was that one day, she'd meet someone worse than Tony. He claimed he wanted to take over the world, her world, but she was determined to stop him. Retreat. That word was not in my vocabulary, but it was the only thing we could do. If not, the Avengers would be lying dead on the grass behind the White House. When new intel comes through about a Hydra weapon, the avengers split into two teams, one checking out a new base, while the other scours an old one. It's no coincidence that the intel comes through, and they find files about experiments done to one person. 'winter 2.0' the team calls her, but to Bucky, the fear sinks in as memories resurface about one soldier in particular, Ace. Stronger, deadlier and she made the winter soldier in him afraid. The work together to find out all they can, not realising that they are being watched by the very soldier herself. After an attack on the compound, which leaves quite a few of the team shaken, one avengr in particular is intrigued by the univited guest now residing in the holding cells. Who is the masked assailant, and why is it, she listened to him? **** The soldier begins to remember her past, fighting against all the Hydra conditioning, to remember who she was. Why does one of the men stand out? Who is he, and why does she have an overwhelming need to protect him? She knows Hydra will stop at nothing to get their soldiers back, but will she submit to Hydra or fight for right to live free? Ana Barton, was the most purest souls Thor had ever encountered. She was strong willed, smart, brave and compassionate. Though he had only known her a few days, during the battle with Loki, he found that she had completely entranced him. Ana didn't know who she was before Clint had found her and saved her. She idolised him, and followed in his footsteps, becoming an agent of SHIELD. Her life takes a complete turn, when she finds herself taken after the battle. ***** When he had returned to Midgard, Earth a few years later, with a reformed Loki, he finds that she had been missing and presumed dead almost as long as he had been gone. When the Avengers hit a Hydra base, to get back the scepter, they come across a room, where someone is bound, from the ceiling. Rescuing the fraile figure, they return to the jet victorious, only to find their rescue, is none other than Ana. She was barely conscious, and from clear signs, she was not there willingly. Taking her back to the tower, they try to help her, only to find that she has no memory of them, and now holding her own power. Thor wants nothing more than to destroy every single person who had hurt her, his need to protect her burning within him. The only comfort she finds is in his brother and the metal armed soldier, needing them both to protect her. ***** Being in a new place, surrounded by so many people, she felt overwhelmed, terrified that they would hurt her like the others. She feels her wrists are now free, and that power within her, was now accessible again.
