The Words That Hurt Me
A general rule of thumb for any type of story telling media is to not have more than five main characters. Often, these five are separated into categories, the leader, the smart one, the hothead, the Woman, and finally, the dumb one. While the others are given chances to express their talents and skills in carefully planned arcs, the dumb one is often neglected. No, the dumb one is meant to entertain, he makes a mistake and you are to laugh at it. He is not allowed to have a moment of realization, not given the chance to prove himself, not allowed to be more than the dumb one. A joke. The unwilling jester meant to make his blind peers look smarter, clever, at the expense of his pride and shame. Michelangelo, youngest ninja turtle, is Doing Just Fine. He means it. The teasing words of his brothers doesn't feel like scalding water against his skin, thank you very much. He Doesn't feel hurt when they brush him off as childish and immature, when they refuse to listen. And he Absolutely Does Not need any help because he doesn't have any problems. He doesn't feel bad. He doesn't really feel anything at all. Mikey can't exactly say there's anything wrong when he can't identify it, but how can he ignore his inner world falling to pieces and his mental health declining? The Donnie Christmas Caper
A TMNT Christmas Mystery None of the turtles knew what had gotten into Donatello. His strange behavior confused them, the genius turtle always choosing December to duck into his lab and refuse to reappear. He'd work in there for days at a time, refusing to let his brothers enter the lab for any reason. Donnie would then stay locked up in his lab until Christmas morning when he'd reappear and act as though nothing ever happened. When questioned, he'd simply shrug off their concerns or puzzlement and change the conversation. Eventually, his family simply left the subject alone. All but Mikey, who was determined to figure out what Donnie was up before Christmas arrived. Inspired by a close friend of mine who shares my love of TMNT and Donatello! You Don't Have To Fight Alone
Maria Sanava is a country girl, but unlike her parents, she isn't interested in working on an apple farm her whole life. She wants to do something that makes a mark on the world. (Zootopia anyone?) All her life she has been involved in extracurriculars, top of her classes in everything. She took art, english, math, science, forensic science, physics, philosophy, history, and even a few martial arts. But she couldn't ever figure out what it was that she wanted to do. But that would change when she accompanied her parents and little brother on a trip to New York for a large shipment of apples and a business offer for her parents. The two week trip gets turned around when she meets Leonardo and his family, who just can't figure out what the foot clan is doing, chasing after some random apple girl from the country. Turns out, being good at everything has it's downsides, but this trip is going to change Leo and Maria's view of the world forever.
