In the wake of the rising dead, Jean finds salvation in the form of a silver cross necklace and the charred remnants of a family photograph. Reduced to survival instincts and a deep terror of the outside world, the two tokens drive Jean forward to live another day, waiting underneath the floorboards of an abandoned cabin for the apocalypse to end.
But that day never comes, and Jean is forced to confront what it takes to stay alive after stumbling across a once abandoned prison, now alive with what she fears most: humans.
In a blur of flesh, distrust, and fear, Jean becomes entangled with a group of survivors and finds herself questioning all she knows-most of all when faced by the dutiful leader who goes against what she believes in, a man with blood on his hands.
