"I knew a girl from District Twelve, once."
"Did you now?"
"She tried to kill me."
"How unfortunate, sir."
Haymitch Abernathy, a sixteen-year-old boy from District Twelve, knew his life was over the moment his name was drawn in the Reaping of the 50th Hunger Games. No mentor, no help...District Twelve would have to do with another gruesome loss. But somehow, in a miraculous turn of fate, he ends up winning.
Of course, life wouldn't let him off that easily. After all, this is Panem, and once inside the Capitol, Haymitch sees what people are at their worst.
By the end of the Hunger Games, Haymitch is a changed man, left with less than what he had before.
The day snow fell upon Victor's Village, everything changed. There was no excitement, no joy, only the cold stare of scrutinising eyes into a child's wounded soul. She was not the girl on fire. She could not set a nation ablaze. Calypso Silva only wanted to survive. But she, with her Capitol blood tainted by the districts, was the legacy so many had fought for. She would be the legacy that so many would die for.
She was the rebirth of love, the death of hate.
The death of him.
