Humanity almost went extinct, until one brave leader rose up and turned what was left of the United States of America into Panem. Over two hundred years later, the Districts rebelled, and the Hunger Games were created as punishment.

At least, that's what the Capitol is telling people.

London Van Buren is from District One, where children train for the hunger games since birth and then volunteer. But her family has a secret. They know the rest of the world exists, and see past the Capitol's lies. London opts out of training for the Hunger Games like the other kids in her district. There's always a volunteer, right?

When her name is drawn, she must rely on her natural charm and beauty to stay alive, as long as her mental illnesses don't get in the way.
