During Ruby's freshman year of high school, her strict conservative mother catches her making out on her parents' bed with the boy of her dreams. She panics and ships Ruby off to boarding school. A year later, Ruby returns to her hometown and her mother enrolls her in another brand-new private school: Bluebell Preparatory. Ruby expects nothing good or exciting about being the new girl again considering boarding school was a bust.

Terrified of ever getting involved with a boy again, Ruby returns home with a locked heart. But when she begins at Bluebell Preparatory, she finds herself torn between three boys: Nate, Asa, and Carson.

Nate is everything her mother would disapprove of. He's cool, handsome and bad. He gives Ruby everything and nothing, yet somehow she still finds herself drawn to him. Meanwhile, Asa is the picture-perfect football player. Before she can decide between the two, Carson Zimmerman - the boy from her past, reappears and is determined to get Ruby back in his life at any cost.
