The first time I saw Jade, I knew she was interesting. Fun. Fascinating. But I also knew that I was bland. Boring. Uninteresting. So I pushed the thought of me, the plain oatmeal, talking to her, the vibrant mango smoothie with a dollop of fresh whipped cream on top, away. Her brilliant green eyes told the story of a girl who went skydiving for her sweet 16 with a European model she met in Italy. My plain brown eyes told the story of a boy who scraped the extra ketchup off of his hot dog because it was all too overwhelming.

But all that changed when I saved her life.
