Greece, 480 BCE. The king of Thermopylae knew that he would not have a chance against the Persian army of 2 million men, that advanced on his city. King Leonidas and his 300 Spartan soldiers had just arrived, but the king still felt it would not be enough against the coming Persian army. He sent out three scouts to the far north, to get help. In front of the king, before leaving, the three scouts asked, "My king, from whom should we seek help?". The king answered, "Go as far north as you need, to the barbaric lands, and get help from anyone." After some time, there was fog in the morning, when the fog lifted, there was an immense army standing outside his city. The king first feared that it was the Persians, when he saw the gleaming bronze of the soldiers in the afternoon sun, but it wasn't. It was Amazons from the North, it was Queen Oiorparta with a huge army.

Things to note about this story is that since I'm writing about real historical mythology, there is of course many, many, different variations, retellings and plots in existence for each one of the myths so I will do my best to comment on and add in variations when necessary, though in some cases I may just stick with the most common, my favorite or the most historically accurate depictions! "If this is just the original myths can't I just go on Theoi?" Well I try to recount all of the myths in an accurate but easy to understand way, which is quite difficult other places, though if you have any questions about anything, please just ask!!

It was suppose to be regulare Winter Solstice. The first one after the second war. The usual boring meeting of the gods that was to take place. The event to happen after was what many gods, satyrs, nymphs and demigods looked forward to. The party that would be hosted on Olympus. All Olympians were together. Some of the demigod children were also in the throne room talking amongst themselves, ironically most argued with the children of the gods their parents were arguing with. Though it all came to a halt when Hestia stood up and walked through a door that appeared in the middle of the throne room. Worried for their sister/aunt the other Olympians followed. The demigods that were also in the room followed suit. They were all greeted by the sight of a simple hearth inside a rustic looking home. A little girl whose form seemed to shift. Though their attention was drawn to the young male who was adding a log to the fire before he noticed them. "Ah, come take a seat. Welcome to the Hearth's Home." Came a warm greeting from the male. Without noticing they all put their weapons away.

Meanwhile, Greeks settlers in Sicily were in conflict with Rome and, by first century BCE, Romans had conquered Greece, Egypt, Carthage and the old Persian empire. Roman traders made large profits using the Silk Road between Rome, China and India and which created higher incomes though out the Roman empire. Roman engineers built more than 80,000 km of roads throughout the empire and 800 km of aqueducts in Rome delivered a million cubic metres of water each day. WHO THE HELL ARE WE? is a series of short books and videos describing the evolution of civilization. Almost everyone on the planet is five times wealthier than their ancestors only 50 years ago. This astonishing phenomenon has also improved health, education, and longevity. The cause; an explosive growth in ideas and productivity.
