How long had it been since he had seen the clear blue skies or the twinkle of starts at night. He did not know, only that it felt like a distant dream. The rolling green hills of the shire and the emerald woods were but a memory so distant ha barely remembered them anymore. For up in the dark tower, it looked as if the whole world was nothing but shadow, stone and ash. He was trapped in the dark, but not alone, never alone. He did not know what it felt to be alone, how it felt to be separated from that darkness, his darkness. He was bound to it now, and bound to him. And the only comfort left for him in this world was the Dark Lord's embrace.

"You have to stop." she whispered urgently. "You're placing too much of this war onto your own shoulders, when you have hundreds of men behind you willing to help you carry it." Her words evidently managed to pull his attention back up to her face, his eyes only a little bit wide at her declaration. Underneath his suddenly intense gaze, she felt her throat begin to grow dry. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰, she wanted to say, but simply could not find the courage to do so in that moment. All credits go to JRR Tolkien and Peter Jackson. I only own Deora and her story.
