Or just Cale being a snotty naive dragon brat and got exposed of his secret Infront of the 'hero' during their first encounter.Something is wrong with him, now that it's exposed that he's still a kid according to dragon's perspective, he turn quite docile and more arrogant.
Nobody could blame him, he's still a kid and acting like an adult for years had tired him out.
Acting like the real him isn't all that wrong, not after his secret was exposed thanks to someone.
