Phantoms of the Forest

The young boy shivered violently as he took a step into the depths of the dark forbidden forest. He was scared though he kept on walking, an unknown force urging him to do so. No one inhabited the gloomy forest, they’d all heard about the horrifying legends about the shadows of the fallen soldiers that roamed round on the darkest nights, enticing anyone who came near. Many villagers who had disappeared in previous years had been assumed dead though nothing had been found of them, no such messages sent to them, nothing. One night they’re there, the next they’re not.

Dark figures surrounded him, they were silent as if they were actually there, and maybe they weren’t. He couldn’t make out the details but they seemed to have long pointed fingers like the edge of tree branches and they were shaped like a silhouetted person… like a shadow of a soldier.
