2147. A century since the Vanishing first occurred. Some thought is was a plague, others a change caused by the sun, or different air molecules. They believed it entirely harmless. A discoloration to the iris of the human eye. Something so simple sometimes it could be missed entirely. Little did they know the dangers that followed. Continent after continent, humans started Vanishing. A bright light, and suddenly they disappeared. No body. No blood. No nothing. All trace of their physical being, gone. The number of Vanishings increased swiftly, sweeping the globe until it left mere millions. Earth nearly empty of humanity. A world with only shadows of what had thrived there. Almost nobody left to wonder where everyone had gone. Residing deep within the depths of the Sahara Desert, is Carcere Prison. An female-youth research facility for criminals and Ashers; people in the beginning stages of the Vanishing. For Tessa Scott and the other inmates, the powerful walls of Carcere hold much more than concrete. In the midst of experimentation and the powers that be, can Tessa find within herself the strength to survive? Can she face the truths that could hold the key to the Vanishing? Or will humankind perish, once and for all?

Ivy Mendler's a normal teenage girl, with normal friends, normal interests, and normal crushes (although she won't admit it to herself). Her canines aren't THAT long, and her skin isn't THAT pale, but her eyes certainly are red. Despite this, she still leads a normal life, has a summer job, and has gotten used to the terrified stares. Ending up in the hospital one day because of herself is enough to make her realize that there's something wrong though. Ivy, along with Camden (her friend who she's definitely just friends with) decides to finally question things and realizes that she's not who she thinks she is. Can Ivy still lead her normal life, even after uncovering an Earth-shattering secret? I have to write a book for an English assignment and I'm severely behind, so I thought that putting it on here would give me more motivation. The good news is that I'm forced to finish it if I don't want to end with an F. English isn't my first language though, so keep your expectations low. Each chapter is around 10,000 words. Enjoy!
