Sixteen-year-old Gabriella Brooks, or what her friends call her, Gabby, hates love. Ever since her parents got a divorce, she's never looked a guy in the eyes again. She hated even talking to her brother. Her father, Leo Brooks, is a leader in a big drug-dealing scheme. Gabriella and her mother, Arella Monroe, did not find out until last year December, a couple of days before Gabriella's sixteenth birthday. Leo left Arella, Gabriella, her brother Georgie, and Arella in despair with little money Arella is bringing in with nursing.
Seventeen-year-old Noah Hart is seen as the heart-breaker slash bad boy in the high school. Every girl drools over him. He plays basketball and is a star athlete. He is also very intelligent, making straight A's every year, even when he decides to skip class. Even though he seems so amazing and cool at school, it's not the same behind closed doors. His father died when he was five, leaving him and his mother alone to make it. He hates his mom's depression, but she tries to do everything she can for Noah. All the cheerleaders want him and drool over him, but he won't even sleep with them. Ever since his father died, he's hated love.

Then, raising his other hand, he cupped her cheeks fully. His eyes began to trace every inch of her face; her eyes, her cheeks, her nose, before his gaze dropped to her lips. She has to keep her grades high to satisfy her parents while attempting to scrape some money for breakfast since all of it goes to pay rent and hospital bills. As Jay enters high school, he becomes very intrigued with one of his classmates. Kind of obsessed, actually. Her name: Mikayla Keeler. Mikayla is very unique, and like Jay, she doesn't seem to fit in with her contemporaries. Instead, the two of them keep each other company, and their friendship very quickly escalates into a romantic and intimate relationship. Despite having Mikayla, Jay's troubles continue to burden him. He and Mikayla are fighting habitually, his home life is still unbearable, and his time at school is hardly any better, made worse by a bully named Calvin. Their mutual dislike of one another leads to a lot of hostility, routinely leading to Jay being sent to his school's principal. One confrontation in particular goes much too far, resulting in Jay's expulsion from school. With everything seemingly piling up, Jay is very close to his breaking point, and late one night he is blindsided by the unthinkable, pushing him much too far and effectively planting in his mind a cruel and horrific plan for revenge.Complete
