When the young Queen Anne is crowned after the death of her father, Francis and Bridget Russel seize the opportunity and send their eldest daughter, Katherine, to be one of her ladies in waiting. Katherine isn't overjoyed with the idea of leaving her family, and her family home, behind, but decides to trust her parents and take the opportunity. She expects to dance, read and support the queen in her duties, and to get married and have children later down the line. She doesn't really expect to fall in love... and she certainly doesn't expect to fall in love with a girl.
