Lucifer Before Dawn

The mandap glowed like a dream-marigolds swaying, fire crackling, laughter woven into sacred chants.

Maya giggled, tossing petals over Ruby as she circled the fire with Rohan.

"This is actually happening-"

A pair of arms suddenly wrapped around her waist.

Before she could react, she was pulled behind a pillar.

"Maya."

Her breath caught. Lucifer.

"Are you insane? Let go-someone will see!"

"I don't think I will," he murmured, eyes dropping to her lips.

"You're impossible."

"And you love that."

Before she could reply-

He closed the distance and kissed her.

For a moment, the world softened into warmth and quiet.

Then-

Something snapped.

Lucifer stilled, pulling back, gaze shifting past her.

"...It's started."

The air turned heavy.

They turned.

Rohan stood frozen at the mandap.

His body jerked once.

Then again.

Ruby laughed nervously. "Rohan-stop-"

He lifted his head.

Maya's breath hitched.

No iris. No brown.

Just bloodshot white-veins blackening, spreading across his face, crawling under his skin. Thin scratches surfaced along his neck, as if something inside was clawing out.

He smiled.

Wrong.

The fire surged.

A guest was suddenly thrown into a pillar-no warning, just impact.

Screams erupted.

Someone stumbled near the flames as Rohan moved-too fast, too unnatural-sending people scattering in panic.

"Run!"

Maya gripped Lucifer's arm. "What is happening?!"

His voice was low.

"That's not him anymore."

Across the chaos-

Rohan's gaze locked onto her.

And this time-

it recognized her.
