It has been 50 years since the creation of the dreaded Hunger Games, where the Capitol reaps one boy and girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen each year to fight for their lives while the nation watches on TV. Having reached such an important milestone, the Capitol has just declared that all districts must send an additional two tributes into the arena to celebrate what they call the "Quarter Quell", but despite the increased chance of being chosen, sixteen year old Haymitch Abernathy has a rather optimistic outlook on the whole situation. With a loving family and doting girlfriend, Haymitch is more than content with his life in District 12, and finds the Games to be no more than a mindless scare tactic to tame the masses. Life is pleasant for him, or at least as pleasant as is can be, but what happens when what he least expects comes to fruition and he is selected as a tribute for the 50th Hunger Games? With two times the number of competitors the odds of winning are surely not in his favor, but when did he ever play by the odds in the first place?
