In a Kingdom once full of beauty, fairness, justice, there's now a heavy darkness that's been building for the past thirty years from unfair decisions and harsh punishments. Princess Xara St. James may be the daughter of a cruel king, but she is nothing like him. In fact, she resents not only his reputation but his rule. 

 Although Tatumn Allard's family was once wealthy, even part of the elites that live within the gates of the heart of the kingdom of Astington. Following a misunderstanding, her family was removed from their home and sent to the poor countryside, leaving an ongoing fueling hatred for the crowned family, including Xara, an old childhood friend. 

 When an anonymous group that calls themselves the Shadowed Renegades begins calling out decisions of the crown and uprisings begin, the children learn a chilling history of their family that drives them to contemplate their entire existence as they must decide what steps to take in order to survive the war about to commence.
