Shelly and Parker Gardner, Susanna Anderson, Cameron Hernandez, and Elizabeth Lieberman were all childhood friends driven apart by the death of Cameron's sister Ana when they were young.
Reuniting in high school, Shelly tries to bring them all back together, but their trauma has changed them, making them different people than the kids Shelly knew.
Shelly is about to give up hope when the five win an all expenses paid trip to Heartspeak Island! Surely this will be a good chance to help them all reconnect.
When they get there, a ghost makes their appearance, threatening to kill the five for trespassing on her island. Shelly in a panic says they'll do anything for their lives, and the Ghost makes a deal; They'll be staying five nights. Each night, the Ghost will possess one of them and destroy a way off the island. If they can correctly deduct whodunnit, the Ghost will let them go. If they fail, they'll be killed.
