17 year old, Willow Sutton, is a social outcast in a cliquey school during the most anticipated night of the school year: prom night. Forced to go due to extra credit, she takes everyone's prom photos unknowing of what is about to change her life. Death bursts through the doors of the gymnasium but she makes a mad dash for an exit, only to find out the world outside has gone mad without them knowing.
"As she slowly looks around the room, her eyes suddenly lock. She stared at my classmate from my AP Government class, Abby Lloyd. She cocks her head to the side and releases an eerie scream. Mackenzie lunges and clings onto Abby, biting into her neck, ripping out her skin and arteries. The poor girl let out a blood curdling scream that sent chills down my spine and formed goosebumps on my skin.
Everyone screamed and began panicking.
My stomach dropped. My heart began to pound like a bass drum.
Abby falls lump on the ground, blood squirting from her neck and staining her perfectly curled ginger hair. Mackenzie dropped down to her knees and began clawing at her stomach, using her acrylic nails to tear open my classmates belly, exposing her innards and devouring them."

It didn't exactly make it easy to prevent getting infected. Things could have been worse, though, Megan thought. She could've been left all alone to ponder over her thoughts and fear over the future. It'll only be within the time spent with the new group will she find out that everything's not as happy and welcoming as it had seemed. These people had a few secrets of their own, including the real reason they took Megan in. She's dead by the third chapter. Okay, it's a bit more complicated than that. Okay, it's A LOT more complicated than that. Being mostly made up of impoverished individuals, it is not surprised that they got cured cheaply and lastly, despite being the main test subjects. Lochlyn is their representative. She just wanted an education beyond elementary school. A little luckier stricken part of the infected population evolved into reverents. Reverants have a feudal system over the zombies to "keep them in order". The luck may have had to do with them being upper-class when being treated. Basilica is their representative. At eighteen, she wanted body modifications, a job, and etc... as a rite of passage entering adulthood. At least that's what she was thinking. The more she was told no, the more she wondered what she could do. There are still uninfected humans left in the U.S.A. Most of them are middle-class. Katrina is their representative.
