The Amulet: A "The Selection" Story

Rowan Acker, a Caste Six, has lived each day trying to do her best to provide for her family of four ever since her Mother abandoned them to marry a man of a higher status. On top of that, the fact that her father is an abusive drunk and gambles away the money she works so hard for doesn't help her case.
When Prince Ace Shreave has just come of age for a selection, a huge opportunity presents itself that could change her life forever and free her not only from her financial worries but also from the horrid Mrs. Brager she works for day in and day out. That is if she could even manage to get accepted out of thousands of applicants.
She could finally give her siblings everything they could ever want, so it shouldn't matter that she'd never even seen Prince Ace's face...right?
What he looks like shouldn't matter, especially since The Selection would give Rowan all the traction she'd ever need to become a Caste Two and join the military: her dream. She'd get in, get out, and live happily ever after. Easy as pie.
