But, that all changed when the hunters came. After losing her chimp father and being tested on by scientists, Zuri became hostile and quiet.

She didnt trust anybody andwould attack anyone who would get too close to her. The only one she would let get close to her was the scientist Franklin, who always showed her kindness and understanding. But then, after losing her chimp mother, Zuri made a vow that she would protect her little brother, Ceasar, with her life. No matter the cost.

Zuri was in a dark, struggling place. She still didnt trust people and was overwhelmed with the pressure and responsibilities. She was betrayed multiple times and that made her fall deeper and deeper into her dark place

But, one day, she meets someone who she can actually trust. An ape who proves that they are trustworthy to her and her brother. An aple who was able to bring her out of her dark place and into the light. And his name was Maurice, a kind former circus orangutan.

Book 1 of the Rising Phoenix trilogy. Would you choose love over peace? Two months away from her graduation day, all Cerise wants is to keep up her grades, continue inventing, and somehow manage to pay off her rent. The fact that she's Paris's secret thief by night makes life all the more exciting. That is, until she gets caught by her stepmother. The last person she wants anything to do with and the president. Her freedom from years in jail comes with a price - stealing from the Drakhenae. She has to steal the one thing that can give her race, the humans, exactly what they need to get rid of the Drakhenae once and for all, information on something stronger, something more than the Drakhenae, something that can destroy them. Information on an experiment that happened fifteen years ago, and about the test subject who disappeared. Despite the confusing tension and rough history between the two races, and the fact that to humans, the Drakhenae are predators, more reptile than human with their leathery wings, slit pupils and the scales on their cheeks, Cerise agrees to go. But her heist couldn't go more wrong, and to make things worse, she gets caught by Everard, the infuriating, confusing, drop-dead gorgeous Drakhenae. Add in the secrets of her past, and the fact that her heart is torn between two people, one with promises, another with secrets, Cerise doesn't know who to trust. And she quickly realizes that things can get worse, and can get worse fast. {Word Count: 50,000-60,000} **Will be undergoing a re-writing soon! "The rain grew colder, the canopy enamoured and blushing even deeper shades of auburn and gold. The tension was growing and the entirety of the large ape colony knew that it would snap at a moment's notice. They were all waiting-- waiting for something to crumble." Greed, tyranny, bloodlust, betrayal. Mankind has done nothing more than pollute and poison what is rightfully ours. After an entire reset of the food chain, man has all but disappeared, all thanks to a human-made virus called the Simian Flu. Apes around the globe, in turn, have become advanced both cognitively and externally, adapting their own form of sign language, as well as learning to speak. The year is 2029. Krissa may very well be the only survivor. Will she manage to weather the trials and tribulations that come with living deep within the Oasis? Proud winner of the Trident Awards
