Been working on this weird little short story on and off for about a year.
'There Is A Tree' is a playful story that began with a talking cicada. It explores ideas around consciousness, life and death, which came into focus for me following the death of my dad in July this year.

She has had visits from her mother and her forceful doctors who want her to seek reverse therapy to cure her of being a lesbian, she refuses it; her mother has taken enough from her. She feels the world is against, her but one day something strange begins to happen and Polly is unaware that the very plants she has treated as her only family could be the ones to save her.
