[Book 2 in the CODES series] || Roger, a cybernetic human with a second chance at life, must face the truths of every lie he's told or risk the possibility of losing it all... ** A year after the "Digital War," Roger had his second chance at life. It was owed to him, a forgotten promise made eighty years in the past by the founding fathers of the Province's prospering nations. He and the other "Codes" left abandoned within the silent computers of every living city would be brought back to life... And have their crimes forgiven and wiped from existence. Yet, finding a home in newly created bodies isn't easy for the new cyborg citizens. The Province may have reached its desired Utopian climate, but society itself was far from reach. So many refused to forget the pain every "Code" inflicted on their lives... Roger hadn't forgotten -- he chose to forget. But as those secret plans made before his original death return to the surface, Roger learns -- just as the Province did -- burying the past doesn't help heal old wounds. ** The gun fit so perfectly in my hands. It's metal, still warm from it's last fired bullet, brought back so many memories I'd learned to suppress. I didn't want to be the man standing in front of them, I wanted to grow and change. But let society remind me of my place... "Roger, don't!" Clara's tearful face came in front of me as she tried to take the gun from my hands. "Please, you don't have to do this!" I couldn't look at her. I didn't want to see the pain in her eyes. "That's the thing, Doll..." I tilted my head back and inhaled sharply. "I've got no other choice." The sound of a bullet firing never sounded so nice... ❝ A sniper doesn't always need a partner, they just need someone to give the signal. ❞ Going solo gave you a lot to ponder on, especially given a mission that isolated you from your daily life of sniping up dozens of armed agents per hour. A change to braids and glasses wouldn't be too bad for one mission. Just follow the girl, keep an eye on the girl, and continue for two years. Simple. Throw in assassins? Simple. Throw in traitors? Simple. Throw in a baby? Simple. Throw in poison? Simple. Throw in intruders? Simple. Throw in love? E R R O R . Check twice before messing with the quiet and the nerds. Because the nerds will become future hackers, and the quiet will become undercover agents. ❝ Game over. ❞ _ ★ Previously Featured on Wattpad's Official ROMANCE Account | Dangerous Love ★ [ Highest Rank #1 in Action - 4:01:18 ] [ Highest Rank #1 in Action - 3:25:18 ] [ Highest Rank #1 in Action - 3:19:18 ] ♕ ♡ [ Highest Rank #1 in Action - 2:25:18 ] [ #3 in Action - 2:24:18 ] [ #4 in Action - 2:23:18 ] [ #5 in Action - 2:21:18 ] [ #6 in Action - 2:19:18 ] [ #7 in Action - 2:18:18 ] [ #8 in Action - 2:16:18 ] [ #9 in Action - 2:15:18 ] [ #11 in Action - 2:12:18 ] [ #12 in Action - 2:09:18 ] [ #13 in Action - 2:07:18 ] [ #24 in Action - 2:04:18 ] [ #25 in Action - 2:01:18 ] [ #39 in Action - 1:30:18 ] [ #47 in Action - 1:29:18 ] [ #56 in Action - 1:13:18 ] [ #119 in Action - 1:12:18 ] [ #148 in Action - 8:21:17 ] _ - Credits to @lilsahun for the wonderful cover - _ 07.01.17 - 06.18.18 // unedited version //

Half-organic, half-mechanical, and driven by vengeance... Beneath biomechanical upgrades and a titanium cranium built for destruction, Joaquin Herrera is a young veteran on a mission. Once an idealistic soldier, now scarred by war and betrayal, Joaquin wields his enhanced body-and his red eye of justice-in pursuit of the Ghost: the dishonorably discharged Army Colonel who masterminded Operation Ironhead, a black ops project that blurred the line between humanity and machine. Joaquin's office is a chaotic web of whiteboards and intel, pointing to the Ghost's nefarious schemes. But when he stirs up the wrong enemies, the voices in his head start whispering, and reality itself begins to fracture. The Ghost's plan is still alive. Joaquin won't stop until he shuts it down-for good. Meanwhile, Agent Martina Lessa is a brilliant but sidelined FBI investigator, buried in the farthest corner of her field office. Her career has stalled thanks to her Special Agent in Charge, but that doesn't stop her from pursuing the truth. BlueMoon, a powerful asset management firm, seems to profit from every disaster, while Black-Sun, a private military company, leaves a trail of destruction across the Americas and beyond. As political bombings and assassinations escalate, Martina begins to suspect an unholy alliance between the two entities. But her investigation takes a chilling turn when she crosses paths with a biomechanical vigilante-Joaquin-and realizes her theories are more horrifying than she imagined. Together, Joaquin and Martina must unravel a web of corruption, transhumanist horrors, and a conspiracy that threatens countless lives. As they grapple with ghosts-both figurative and literal-and confront their own demons, they'll have to decide whether they're driven by justice, vengeance, or something far darker. In this action-packed horror thriller, the line between humanity and monstrosity blurs. The cost of failure? The soul of a nation.
