Bria Matthews' parents have tried for years to convince her that she and they are werewolves. They repeatedly claim to be disciples of the Mesopotamian Goddess Ishtar, who was renowned for the curses she bestowed upon young admirers, one of whom she changed into a wolf. 

To Bria, it all seems incredibly farfetched but she keeps her parents' theology secret from her mainstream friends.

Bria's newfound position is a bone of contention, and her father becomes the first victim in the fight for power.
